Day 79: “Pull My Heart Away” by Jack Peñate. Have I mentioned before how much I love bittersweet songs? I fell in love with this one pretty much from the first few lines. The tune itself is cheery and would fit right in with pop. One listen to the lyrics, though, and you get a real sense of loss and longing:

I will have to pull my heart away
‘Cause if I never leave I’ll ruin yesterday

It’s not like my feet are stuck to the floor
It’s not like I want to nail down the door
I want you to throw my shoes in the fire
And I’ll watch the soles burn on the funeral pyre
